By chance, the photographers' archives have been preserved, and over 3000 negatives from the period 1870-1920 have been collected and reviewed as the basis for the film, which has become a beautiful visual poem about a small village community's encounter with the 20th century and its technological wonders. On the film's audio side, old Gudhjem residents talk about the time.
